Sabbia D'Oro Hotels and San Vito Lo Capo: The two perfect names for a special vacation.

Giacomo traveled around the world on large mercantile ships. Often when he returned from his long journeys, he went fishing at the seaside of his beloved San Vito Lo Capo, taking his son Gaetano with him. During the 1980’s, Giacomo sensed the possibility of developing tourism in San Vito and suggested to his son to enroll at the State Professional Institute for Hotel and Restaurant Services of Palermo, which at the time was the only institute in Western Sicily.

Gaetano, evaluating his natural inclination, followed the advice of his father and began a course of studies, eventually obtaining the diploma of Technician of Hotel and Restaurant Services. In 1982, Giacomo and Angela founded the “Pensione Sabbia D’Oro”, a structure characterized by a predominately family atmosphere and the aroma of fresh fish, caught by Giacomo and prepared by Gaetano, who was taking his first steps in the business so strongly desired by his father.

Initially, the activities were carried out by the entire family: Giacomo took care of providing the fish, Angela managed the bookings and cleaned the rooms, Antonina waited tables and Gaetano was in charge of the restaurant and guest relations. A few years later, Giacomo decided to mange the neighboring hotel, called Ocean View.
