Special events: CousCous Fest


The most spectacular event in San Vito Lo Capo - and the one that best encapsulates the spirit of the place - is CuscusFest, an annual cultural and culinary extravaganza now in its X year and set to take place from 25 to 30 Septeber.		The main feature of the event is the couscous competition, in which chefs from an array of different countries battle it out to win over the jury of journalists and opinion leaders.

The event is intended as a sort of cultural 'melting pot', in which representatives of diverse parts of the world have the opportunity to come face-to-face around a bowl of couscous, the common denominator of all the different cultures present. Couscous is a wonderful specialty that is made by finely milling semolina flour until grains are formed - here functions as a sort of 'peace dish', since it allows for the perfect integration of peoples with radically divergent religious beliefs, ideologies and cultures.

	Every year, to ensure everyone has the opportunity to savour all the varieties of couscous on offer, a 'gourmet village' is set up, in which visitors can see for themselves how this delicious dish is made in a plethora of different countries.

Several stands are dedicated to showcasing authentic, hand-crafted products and local delicacies (other than couscous) from the countries that have sent delegations to San Vito Lo Capo, facilitating a valuable form of cultural exchange based around the reciprocal appreciation of each other's approach to cuisine. And, of course, music will have an important part to play in the proceedings - every night, the event will be the backdrop for a world music concert that will act as the perfect complement to a day filled with the perfumes of nature and the intense aroma of couscous.
